General Information

Murphy Pendleton is a troubled man, a prisoner. He’s spent most of his adult life tugged around by extreme irritable highs and soul-crushing depressions. His personality is somewhat abrasive. He’s quite crass and closed-off. But, this wasn’t always the case. Before prison, Murphy had a family. It was a fragmented one since the divorce, but a family nonetheless. His son Charlie is his pride and joy and Murphy would look forward to when he could spend time with him. However, Murphy’s financial situation was just about as precarious as his mental state, leaving him barely able to provide for himself let alone his son. He knew he’d lose his house soon. During one of his strange highs, one of the ones where it felt like reality was grains of sand slipping through his fingers– He decided to rob his boss’ home, a man named Frank Coleridge. This is when everything changed for Murphy… And it changed for the worse. Murphy shot Frank Coleridge that night, ran from the cops, and promptly got viciously beaten and arrested. That night haunts him, even though it’s all a blur.

During his time in prison Murphy would prove to be problematic when he was irritable. Getting into fights with inmates, often leading to him biting off more than he could chew and getting his ass kicked. When in this state he’d often display some odd paranoid symptoms, which would largely go completely untreated and even made worse by the corrections officers present in the facility. When he was depressed, he’d sulk in his cell for weeks, barely even completing what was required of him. But there was a glimmer of hope in all of this… A riot broke out. And Murphy and many other prisoners took this opportunity to cause as much havoc as possible. During this riot, Murphy got into a very brutal fight with two of his “favorite” corrections officers. Anne Cunningham and George Sewell. These two officers would harass Murphy, and he wanted to punish them. Murphy lost that fight.

Deemed as a larger threat, Murphy and some other inmates who were particularly problematic during the riot were planned to be sent to a different facility. The inmates were loaded onto a bus and Anne, after recovering from some of her injuries, was placed in charge of keeping the inmates in line on the drive over. The mountain roads the bus was passing through were particularly slick that night due to the rain and sleet. A verbal fight broke out between some of the inmates on the bus, Murphy too absorbed in staring at the fog out the window to really pay attention. The bus driver took his eyes off the road, and before Murphy could process it, the bus slid and rolled down the mountain. Murphy woke up, having been flung completely across the length of it, his own blood all over its now spider web shattered windshield. His head hurt… But what was particularly odd was it seemed as though all the other people on the bus had disappeared. No sign of any bodies, as if they had been snapped out of existence, dissolved into the fog. Murphy knew he was hurt, and had a twisting feeling that he had to get out of there and get on the move. He could see that town, looming above him… Silent Hill.

Upon entering Silent Hill., Murphy was met with oppressive foggy silence. He’d never been in a place so still and quiet. From what he knew, Silent Hill. was still a town with inhabitants, even a particularly energetic resort town. He had even visited it when he was a boy… so seeing it so empty was extremely offputting. It was clear something had changed between the crash and now. But what it is completely eludes him. As Murphy explored, the stranger things got. The deeper he went, the more he was sure he was being hunted…
